Do-A-Dot Rainbow -With Free Printable

It’s that time of year when we are looking out for all the rainbows! A little brightness and excitement after all the rain. What better activity while waiting for the rain to stop then do-a-dot rainbows!

Not sure what do-a-dot markers are? Think bingo daubers.

These markers will be the coolest addition to your crafting corner.

Prepping Your Space

I love these simple yet engaging projects, the setup is not complicated, the cleanup is (should be) minimal, the kids stay clean (kind of).

For a project like this I place a piece of cardboard on each child’s spot at the table and have a washcloth or wet wipes available.

Don’t forget to cover your child. It’s always best to assume they will somehow end up with marker in the craziest of places.

Materials List:

• Cardboard or kraft paper to cover your space
• Do-a-dot markers
• Regular washable markers to color the words (optional)

What We Did

After setting up each child’s space, I prepped the do-a-dot markers by gently pushing them on a scrap piece of paper until the color showed.

I then set all the markers in the middle of the table for the children to make their color choices.

For my littles (one-year-olds), I placed two colors within reach and occasionally rotated them with other choices from the table.

Markers were also placed on the table for them to color the letters on their papers.

One awesome part about making these printables myself, I can personalize them.

Ways To Learn

Always talk to the children in your care while creating. They may not all talk, but they’re always listening!

• Ask older children what color they are using
• Tell younger children what color they have chosen
• Ask questions like:
  • What shape do you see in your rainbow
  • What letters are at the bottom of the page
  • When do you see a rainbow
  • What colors are in the rainbow
• Use this as an opportunity to teach your littlest of learners a simple direction, dot dot dot.

Art is one of the best times to get your littles learning. Talk to them. Repeat yourself. They are absorbing so much!
